Bright tights redux

Apparently, there is something wrong with my eyes because I always thought these tights were kind of indigo/purply color. You can imagine my suprise when I saw that they appear to be electric blue in this (and every other) photo.
I consulted the neighbor and it’s confirmed that they are, in fact, screamingly bright blue.
Is there such a thing as adult-onset colorblindness?

Weird.

I am at war with basic flats.

I got some new flats in a 2-pairs-for-25-bucks sale that yes, involves extremely cheap man-made fiber shoes that were undoubtedly made under crap working conditions. I’ve been trying really hard in the last couple years to be more conscientious of my consumption and try to only buy things I know will last or are at least made of biodegradable and repairable materials. That said, after spending a pretty penny on a 100% leather set from an upscale retailer less than five months ago, I found that they had stretched two sizes too large within 2 months and the following 2 months after that the soles were worn flapping and thin.
Stacking in adhesive heel liners kept them mostly on my feet, but the liners quickly got all cruddy and gross to the touch and spread their icky stickyness around the entire shoe inner and ruined many pairs of tights. Eww. So much for well made natural fiber items that will last.

My current job-hunting status combined with my own vanity demands I wear half-decent looking shoes, so I decided that I’d bite the moral bullet and get these in interview-safe black and stark snow white which tends to look, in my opinion, sassy and fabulous with my typical monochrome black I-work-in-an-art-gallery style.

Is it even possible to wear white shoes without feeling new wave? Not that new wave is a bad thing, I love me some soft cell, I mean come on. How could anyone possibly dislike tainted love?

I’m fairly certain that despite the cuteness, these pairs won’t last more than a month or two. Any recommendations for a pair of quality low-throated basic flats that can stand up to 3-4 wearings per week by a fervent pedestrian? Round or almond toe would be best and I’d be forever grateful.

Copper love

High on my imaginary home-renovation list lately has been the utter gorgosity of lighting designer Tom Dixon’s copper shade pendant lamps. Completely simple yet totally stunning, the delicious warm tone of the metal shade does all the work.
No, I don’t own a home to renovate but that’s why it’s imaginary. A girl can dream ok?
Let’s look at some photos in action, shall we?

Obviously, the bad news besides me lacking a home to install it in, is that it also requires 450 bones to purchase. Thus even if I did have the previously mentioned imaginary home to renovate, it’s way beyond reasonable for my budget (assuming my imaginary mortgage would be about the same as my real-life rent, which, Ha. That’s likely.) I remain content for now with simply collecting beautiful images and daydreaming about finding one in a thrift shop or in some one-in-a-million super sale.

All that said, you can imagine my excitement when I came across this:

What is it you ask?

It’s an awesome statement necklace from local jewelry design group 360 degrees. Any you know what? It’s close enough to for me.

pink tights

I’ve never been the biggest fan of wearing the color pink. My dear friend Melissa went through a period just after we met wherein pinks, especially vibrant pink was HER color. She rocked it often and very well, and I fully supported her decision to do so because I love color and have always thought it was kinda shit that having a favorite color outside of childhood is considered strange. Anyway, I had no issues with her pinktasticness as I was at the time having a clandestine affair with gold outside of my lifelong commitment to brilliant kelly green.

Years have gone by and we’ve both branched out in the fashion hues department. It was that growth combined with the fact that we currently live on different continents that informed my decision to go ahead with the purchase of these HOT! PINK! six-dollar tights from a socks-and-underwear table set up out front of the grocery store earlier this week.

So when I woke today with a well-earned hangover, it was clear that the antidote to my anguish would lie only in the magical combination of coffee, pastries, and a cheeky outfit. I’m feeling better already.

So what’s your favorite color?

green and blue

This is a photo the Mister took of me modelling the souvenir scarves I bought at the Chapel Street Bazaar in Prahran, Melbourne.
They are those filmy vintage sort from the 50′s and 60′s that women used to wrap their newly-set hair with; they have an almost waffle-like texture that you can see pretty clearly in the blue one.
Does anyone know if they have a specific name?
I prefer them over normal sheer scarves because if you store them all in a wad, when you wear them they have a cloud-like ethereality and also, the colors, wow.

oh hello.

Having recently moved from the US to Australia, this is the first January of my life that isn’t miserably cold.
I’m told Queensland winter albeit six months off, is pretty much a joke. Brisbane’s winter is rumored to be about as powerful as that of Los Angeles.

All that said, I’m not too bummed about the lack of sub 65°F/18°C weather but I do miss the fashion.

Check out this awesome hat that I have absolutely no use for.
Made of 100% wool felt, it’s totally perfect so perhaps I should buy it anyway JUST IN CASE a once-in-a-zillion snowstorm hits tropical Brisbane.

$120 from Feruto on Etsy.
Have I mentioned that my birthday is in a couple days?
